The End of the Tour is based on a best selling memoir by David Lipsky. It depicts/recreates the time when Lipsky interviewed author David Foster Wallace during the last leg of his book tour for Infinite Jest.
Jason Segel does a superb job of portraying David Foster Wallace. He doesn’t come off as too silly or too serious. Instead, he manages to achieve a perfect balance of both spectrums. By which I mean he definitely does the role justice.
Jesse Eisenberg also gives a great performance as David Lipsky. But then… Eisenberg rarely disappoints.
The chemistry between both actors never seemed forced or belabored. It was literally like watching the forging of a friendship between two writers, colleagues, and intelligent human beings.
I must admit that I didn’t know much about David Foster Wallace before watching this movie, other than the fact that he wrote Infinite Jest and committed suicide in 2010. But after watching The End of the Tour I immediately googled him and now look forward to reading his work as soon as possible.
If you like movies about writers or the creative process then you’ll definitely like The End of the Tour.
I give it 5 out of 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
