X-Men Apocalypse Movie Review

X-Men Apocalypse is so incredibly awesome! It has an excellent balance of action and drama. It’s way better than stinky ol’ Captain America Civil War!

Apocalypse is a centuries old mutant with immense power. He’s also supposed to be one of the first, if not the first, ever known mutants. He awakens from a very long slumber and finds himself in the year 1983.

Disgusted with the state of society, he begins recruiting other mutants to become his “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” in order to “cleanse” the planet and start anew. Naturally, his horsemen include: Magneto, Psylocke, Storm and Angel.

I won’t give away too much but I’m pretty sure it’s easy to deduce that the X-Men eventually destroy Apocalypse. There are plans for another sequel due out in another couple of years.

Oh and I really like Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) taking on the role of temporary leader of the X-Men. It suits her well. I also like the fact that a song from my all time favorite band, Metallica, played in the background during the first scene with Angel. (Fun fact: Metallica’s debut album, Kill ‘Em All, was released July 25, 1983.)

The first half hour of the movie almost drags on but then the action kicks in full force! The CGI sequences are really something to behold. I mean, it’s as though the boundaries of CGI technology were really pushed to the limit.

Overall, this is one of the few comic book based movies that stays true to that familiar comic book vibe.

I give X-Men Apocalypse 5 out of 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
